Tại sao cần critical reading?
Hỏi: Bác sĩ, luật sư, kỹ sư, doanh nhân và một học sinh trung học có gì giống nhau?
Đáp: Thưa, tất cả đều phải có kỹ năng Critical Reading, và đều thi môn Critical Reading qua các hình thức khác nhau.
Trong bài này, CCM giới thiệu các loại bài thi khác nhau nhưng đều đòi hỏi Critical Reading -- một kỹ năng quan trọng cho nhiều ngành nghề khác nhau. Có 5 loại bài thi khác nhau dưới đây:
- SAT: Đây là bài thi cấp 3. Các trường đại học dựa trên kết quả học tập và điểm SAT để tuyển sinh, cấp học bổng.
- GRE: Đây là bài thi sử dụng cho chương trình Thạc sĩ, ví dụ như ThS Công nghệ thông tin, ThS Điện toán...
- GMAT: Đây là bài thi sử dụng cho các Business Schools (B-schools), theo học Quản trị, ví dụ như Thạc sĩ Quản trị kinh doanh, Thạc sĩ Quản trị giáo dục.
- MCAT: Bài thi vào trường Y khoa.
- LSAT: Bài thi vào trường Luật.
Mời các phụ huynh tham khảo. Xin lưu ý các bài thi tại Hoa Kỳ (và phần lớn các nước phát triển) không khó ở nội dung mà khó ở thời gian. Nói nôm na là từng câu một thì không khó, nhưng làm nhanh, chính xác, kịp thời gian là khó.
SAT (Thi vào đại học)
Các học sinh đọc một đoạn văn, rồi trả lời câu hỏi dưới.

Kết luận: Tại sao cần Critical Reading?
Như các phụ huynh đã tham khảo, kỹ năng Critical Reading rất cần thiết trong cuộc sống, và các trường đại học nhiều ngành nghề khác nhau đều đưa vào chương trình thi tuyển. Tất cả các bài thi đều có phần đọc và hiểu nội dung thấu đáo, thấy được các sự khác biệt kín đáo (subtle differences), và quan trọng là phải đọc được trong một thời gian ngắn.
Critical Reading không phải là kỹ năng đi xe đạp hay học bơi (có thể học bất cứ lúc nào). Critical Reading là bước căn bản cần được dạy cho các học sinh ngay vào lúc này.
